Wiki has been added!

Since we are starting to get some notice, we decided to put the wiki back up.  I’m going to try and find some time soon to get some spec pages put in.  While doing that, I am also going to brush up on my X11 and shell programming.  I want to start getting something setup.  I’ll probably get a Google Code repo setup or just use the SVN repo I already have on Dreamhost.

Hope to see you guys on the forum/wiki!

Another change…moved to BASH!!!

Alright, I know I keep moving around on things, but I swear I’m making progress!!  This time, instead of working on the kernel itself, I’m just going to build a system using LFS (Linux From Scratch) and build a shell in it.  I’m running through the BASH 4.0 code to figure out how to do things.  I’ll adjust my scripts so that instead of calling the login program on boot, it calls the shell instead.  I know, could cause problems, but hey, we can’t have solutions without problems right?

Anyways, I’ll install a Wiki on a subdomain soon and start tabbing out the specs and what I wish to accomplish.  I’ll see if I can link the wp_users and mediawiki login together to simplifiy things.  No need having 2 logins for one site right?

I’ll also start pulling stuff from other sites (giving credit where credit is due) and requesting comments and what not.  For all those visiting, please leave comments and let me know your opinions.

Linux Kernel and Status Updates…

I’ve setup a local VBox for me to test booting the kernel on.  I’m going to setup an intial linux host so I can do some programming on.  Once I have that, I will start making a custom distro specifically for LCARS.  How cool would that be? Replacing the traditional Bash shell with an LCARS one? Well, that’s the goal now.  Might make a minimal port of X11 or just use it as well.  I’d rather not though.  The least amount of software loaded, the better.  I want this to be agile and efficient enough so that it can be quickly streamed over a network, booted, and ran at top speed on something similar to a Net Appliance.  Those that are old enough will remember those.  They died quickly.

Anyways, I’ll be using the 2.6.29 kernel for starters then adjust the booting process to load a custom shell.  This will be interesting.

BTW, the ads you now see, if you don’t want to see them anymore, get Firefox and install the AdBlock plugin.  Otherwise, put up with it.  This site costs money (very little, but still some) and I’d like a little support.  And this way, you don’t have to donate either.  It’s all good.

Catch ya later.
